European Pillar of Social Rights
Detailed proposals to build a European Pillar of Social Rights are expected by March 2017. A Social Summit on “Fair Jobs and Growth” is scheduled in Gothenburg on the 17 November 2017, during the Swedish Presidency of the EU. The aim is to put social priorities at the top of Europe’s agenda, pressing for economic growth that is combined with social progress.
So far, while a number of issues typically related to financial inclusion are given prominence, for example the difficulties that people can face during a job or career change, it is not clear that actions to improve financial inclusion will feature significantly in detailed proposals. There will be further opportunities to deepen the discussion during debates in the European Parliament or at the Social Summit.
