Politico – Don’t throw away your wallets yet because good ol’ banknotes and coins are here to stay. That’s the conclusion of a new study by the payments consultancy Agis that looked at the use and demand for cash.
With fintech so much in vogue, cash is seen as akin to print newspapers: a rapidly dying convenience that is about to be overtaken by history. But, just like print papers, a lot of people still like cash. Despite all the new payments systems, “the demand for banknotes and coins has continued to grow at a significant pace around the world. As a payment instrument, cash retains a dominant role in the vast majority of countries,” Guillaume Lepecq, the author of the study, concludes.
