Big data and fintech: a solution to financial exclusion?

Conference 17th October 2017, Brussels, co-organised by BEUC-ECRI-EFIN
Place du Congrès, 1 – 1000 Brussels

The conference will explore, from the perspective of financial inclusion, the potential risks and
benefits of big data and fintech for citizens. The underlying question is whether regulators should
take action in this area and, if so, what should be done to keep a balance between protecting users
and allowing innovation.
Each of the panels will focus on the following three questions:
1. What are the financial inclusion issues?
2. How Big Data & Fintech can address the problem?
3. Risks and opportunities
Experts from across the payment, insurance and credit sectors will debate these issues, including
the European Commission, the European Parliament, the US National Association of Consumer
Advocates, the National Bank of Belgium, consumer organisations, fintech startups and leading
universities.
